The baby of Canada's own superstar, Celine Dion, Nickels is a diner-style restaurant that offers fair food at reasonable prices. The décor of this downtown location, which sits directly in front of the colossal Eaton Center shopping mall, is a little confused. The attempt is an idyllic ’50s diner ambience, but guitars and jukeboxes on the booth upholstery is not the way to go. The menu is large with a notable attempt to include healthy choices, so lots of salads and such are available to complement the typical diner fare of burgers, subs, steaks and barbecue. The quality is slightly above average for these casual dishes. And while that might not impress, it is a good dining option if you're busy at the mall and want a quick bite. Waitstaff is young and generally friendly, so expect informal but efficient service.
