Old Town Bakery Restaurant Review:
A busy Old Town corner is redolent of warm, golden crusts beginning at dawn each day, as master baker and owner Niall Bowen pulls plain and filled croissants, danishes, sticky buns, brioche, tartlets, baguettes, multi-grain loaves, and cookies from his ovens. Besides the basic pleasures of a flaky pastry and a coffee or espresso drink to start the day, Old Town Bakery builds a simple but notable lunch menu on a foundation of homemade bread and soups of the day. Whether it's a classic French dip (roast beef drenched in au jus and served with horseradish on French bread), a curried chicken salad, a vegetarian mix, or a build-your-own number from a selection of meats, cheeses and vegetables, everything tastes better on bread fresh from the oven. A cheese window with imported and domestic selections and a small but select array of gourmet products (cured olives, jams, cornichons) let you take home some of the old-world goodness for a special snack or hors d'oeuvre later. Shop here for lunch on the beach or boat, or order custom tarts and cakes ahead.
