THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Pandan Leaf Restaurant Review:
In a space where restaurants have failed before it, Pandan Leaf has hit a home run. Taking full advantage of the whimsically painted woodwork it inherited from the previous tenant, the place fills quickly almost nightly, partially because nobody else outside Chinatown serves Malaysian fare. Good food and polite service can explain the rest of the reasons. In a wise move, the menu explains all of the many dishes in English. It has some wonderful salads, like Malaysian yee sang, which translates as tossed to prosperity raw fish salad. It also makes barbecued stingray thats really grilled skate wing with some Asian spices rubbed over the skin. There are plenty of noodle dishes and a beef dish, char kway teow, which is as tender as pot roast. It has a full liquor license and even serves umbrella drinks, but most of the diverse group of knowledgeable diners opts for beer.
