The handmade noodles are the stars of the menu, which also features numerous stews characteristic of the cooking of Eastern and Northern China. Although the menu makes a point of including Chinese-American favorites, the exotic lamb dishes are more noteworthy, and, of course, the soup noodle dishes with the thick yet tender handmade noodles. These include lamb stew soup (a clear, hearty broth touched with chile fire and brimming with pungent lamb slices), beef stew, Mandarin beef stew soup and noodles with Peking sauce. The Eastern Pots (or hot pots) make good group dishes and run the gamut from assorted seafood to lamb with sour cabbage, each bubbling in a rich and wholesome broth. Standout appetizers include Eastern-style pancakes with spring onions and assorted boiled, steamed or fried dumplings. Want northern-style dim sum? It’s served here daily from a special dim sum menu. The Chinese doughnut with pancake is a knockout.
