Pelican's Restaurant Restaurant Review:
Pelican's is a steak-and-seafood fixture among locals, who jam the place especially on Friday and Saturday nights. It's got an upscale vibe circa 1985, which is to say it’s comfortingly old-school, if not exactly exciting. Warm bread and whipped butter greet you when you sit down, and entrées come with bottomless salad and jumbo baked spuds. For appetizers, go for the house version of oysters Rockefeller. Fried seafood like the beer-battered jumbo shrimp is well done, but you can also order fresh grilled fish as well as crab legs and lobster tails. Still, a menu update wouldn’t be unwelcome; we tired of the likes of fried mozzarella and Hawaiian chicken twenty years ago. The same goes for uninspired dessert selections like mud pie---and for the pedestrian bar, from kitschy cocktails to bottom-shelf wines.
