Whitey's Fish Camp Restaurant Review:
Fried catfish, a bait-and-tackle shop, boat ramp and RV park all in one---what more can you possibly want? Whitey's Fish Camp is a North Florida classic, a waterfront restaurant where you can catch your fish and eat it too. (Not to mention stay awhile if you've got a motor home.) Located on a St. Johns River tributary, Whitey's décor---which has been upgraded from its earliest days---is still heavy on mounted fish and fishing paraphernalia, plus strategically-placed corrugated metal. Big picture windows look out on the dining deck and Swimming Penn Creek, making it a pleasant, family-friendly place to chow down on fried catfish, boiled shrimp, grilled snapper and gator-tail nuggets. Like all fish camps, Whitey's has upgraded its menu in recent years with pasta dishes, elaborate sauces and various blackened and sautéed preparations. Eschew all those things and stick to simple boiled, broiled, steamed or fried seafood and you can't go wrong.
