Ponds Hilo Restaurant Review

: Relaxing tropical breezes, refreshing drinks and good food await at this restaurant constructed over a crystal clear koi pond, a setting that inspired its name. Touting “local-style fine dining,” this spot is renowned for seasoned, flame-broiled steaks. Other options on the menu range from a braised pear and Brie-spinach salad topped with honey walnuts and dressed with papaya poi vinaigrette to crab-crusted opakapaka with roasted pepper sauce, and linguine with macadamia nut pesto. The intimate venue also provides an assortment of pupus, including coconut shrimp and escargots, along with drink specials from a nicely stocked bar. (Be sure to check out the daily happy hour from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.) A sizeable selection of local beers and spirits, like moonshine and Maui Vodka, is available, too. Dinner guests are treated to soothing live background music. Sunday Brunch is a favorite with both locals and tourists.
