Princess Victoria Restaurant Review:
The former gin palace still keeps some of its old glory; ceilings are high with ornate cornices, the atriums offer Victorian grandeur and good light and the bar is a splendid curved affair now topped with white marble. Fashionable colours and olive trees outside signal the pub's intent---here one will find serious cooking. Take your pick from well-executed dishes like potted Dorset crab, belly of pork (Old Spot no less, a favoured breed of pig), beautifully done vegetables and good desserts. The standard of cooking should not surprise. The chef, James McLean, was with Paul Merrett at The Greenhouse while his business partner, Matt Wilkin, was sommelier at The Capital Hotel. Mainly European wines with decent mark-ups accompany the feast. Service is delightful. Make the trek to Shepherd’s Bush and you’ll be well rewarded.
