Provence Restaurant Review:
Chef Michael Cunningham's menu is a paean to pastoral, hearty French and Mediterranean cooking. Many entrées are available as small plates: bouillabaisse; pan-seared duck breast with sweet corn relish, arugula and grilled fingerlings; a savory homard a la Portuguese of lobster, shrimp and chorizo in tomato-fennel cream sauce over spinach linguine. Sunday brunch offers the expected dishes (quiche du jour, french toast), but also hits the highlights with crab cake Benedict and red chili encrusted hanger steak with Creole sauce and home fries. Bar and happy hours menus are available. House-made desserts include airy mousses and fruit tarts. The wine list has 160 labels, many French, with widely varied pricing for all pockets. Provence owner Daniel Darves also owns nearby Milano restaurant and Milano North in Lake Placid.
