Easy-on-the-pocketbook prices are the main reason for dining at any of nearly a dozen Provino’s locations around Atlanta. Appetizers feature fried ravioli, clams oreganata, and pasta and fagioli. Accompanying all is a big bowl of oil-and-vinegar-dressed salad that has the bitter edge of too much crushed dried herb. A basket of squishy rolls dripping with garlic butter also is presented. The baked pasta line-up is traditional. Numerous chicken and five veal preparations are offered; the Marsala version comes with fresh mushrooms and a blanket of thick, sweet-tasting sauce that comes with incongruent pasta with a tomato sauce, again bitter with too much dried herb. Fish dishes may be a better way to go. Wine selections are extremely limited, with only seven choices beyond the house red, white and blush. Some locations cannot serve alcohol on Sundays, but this one does.
