Puchica Restaurant Review:

This Guatemalan restaurant from Milbet Zetina Del Cid resides near one of California’s busiest intersections, and features hearty cuisine. The name loosely translates from Spanish as "wonderful surprise," and many diners experience that very reaction. The space features tile floors, flat-screen TVs placed above the bar to display soccer matches, and propulsive Latin music. Sure, Puchica prepares shrimp or tilapia in many ways, but its strength is meat. If you have at least two people, the best value lies in "plato Puchica." This eponymous platter features carne asada (grilled rib-eye), carne adobada (marinated pork), chile relleno (ground beef and pork with minced vegetables in tomato sauce), and longaniza (herb-flecked pork sausage). Accompaniments include rice, black beans, fried plantains, spicy guacamole and chunky tomato salsa. Mondays and Tuesdays, there are shucos, or Guatemalan hot dogs. To drink, the license is limited, but soju cocktails stand in for classic drinks like the Tequila Sunrise, Cuba Libre and mojito. Margaritas come in unconventional flavors like hibiscus, tamarindo and mango. Teetotalers can opt for fresh-squeezed orange juice, aguas frescas and Guatemalan atol made with either corn or plantains.
