The noble torta is the king of Mexican fast food, a sandwich that's not just a sandwich. Imagine a generous bun laden with black beans, shredded chicken mole, avocado, lettuce, tomato and onion. It's a two-hander that can't be beat. We recommend the La Española which combines beef with chorizo and cheese. The smarts behind this concept belong to Carlos Chávez, who also owns Fonda San Carlos.
