THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Rare Restaurant Review:
A tiny slip of a space presented opportunity for ex-New Yorker Lorenzo Wyche and his largely native-Big Apple team. The textured walls needed little or no embellishment to provide a warm backdrop for melting candles, reclined upholstered seating, and a big screen showing vintage animated films. The establishment touts itself as a "soul" food restaurant, but the menu ranges from South African pork flavored with piri piri sauce to Jamaican jerked fare to South Carolina hoppin' john (well, a version of it anyway) to a BLT with fried green tomatoes and blue cheese dressing that gets woefully mangled as one tries to eat it. We highly recommend the aforementioned pork with candied sweet potatoes, while the country fried steak with wild mushrooms and a tarragon "gravy" comes across as too salty in the sauce. The herb biscuits are quite delectable. The wine list is a starter set, and needs to be re-crafted with the food in mind.
