Red Lion Pub Restaurant Review:
Chef/owner and Yorkshire native Craig Mallinson brings a bit of Britain to Houston with his authentic English pub. Dark woods, red leather banquettes, a bar with big-screen TVs and a cozy back room with a roaring fireplace set the stage for a menu offering huge plates of fish ‘n’ chips, bangers and mash and steaming shepherd’s pie. But we also recommend British-Indian dishes like beef vindaloo and chicken tikka masala. While food can be pricey, the pub makes up for it with the Sunday roast beef and Yorkshire pudding dinner for $22 and the Thursday filet mignon special at $24. Locals line the barstools most afternoons, nights can be fairly packed, and a patio fills up during good weather. Red Lion Pub is open 364 days a year. In typical British style, it closes only on December 26, Boxing Day. A special night owl menu with a keema pizza and shrimp and bacon tacos keeps the kitchen busy until 2 a.m.
