THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Rice Table Restaurant Review:
After 30 years, this family-owned operation, one of the first Indonesian restaurants in the Bay Area, is still the best. The rijstaffel (rice table) of a dozen or so small dishes makes up an exotic grazing feast priced at $16.95 or $19.95. The sambals---creamy peanut, tart cilantro and incendiary chile---are very good, as are the Indonesian-style egg rolls and prawns cooked in a tangy butter-tamarind sauce. The spicy barbecued chicken is popular, salads are fresh and the long-simmered curries are savory. Even the omnipresent fried banana is a treat.
