THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED NAMES TO 394 RESTAURANT & LOUNGE. Take a table on the patio out front and watch the shoppers wander down the main drag of the city of Ventura, or sequester yourself at a table in the back of this casual but intimate café with a European feel. Guests can linger over a glass of wine, cocktail or espresso drink, or dive into the moderately priced Mediterranean menu without being rushed. The servers and the ever-present owners are very friendly. This spot is one of the few places in Ventura serving escargots and classic onion soup. Other starters include pan-fried salmon cakes with aïoli, Caesar salad with anchovies (which can be served on the side) and a fritto misto of calamari, zucchini and shrimp. One of the most popular pasta dishes is spaghetti aglio e olio topped with sliced grilled skirt steak. Whitefish meunière with lemon-caper butter sauce is also notable. Desserts change occasionally (as does the rest of the menu), but the crème brûlée and tiramisu make regular appearances.
