Rooster's Wood-Fired Kitchen Restaurant Review:

This cozy uptown hotspot offers a chic, bistro-like atmosphere, but it’s the inventive menu that has people talking. Chalkboard specials, perhaps house-cured meats, may propose various departures from the traditional European-influenced fare; Southern touches include Anson Mills grits and polenta. But the restaurant’s namesake is the star dish: tender, comforting locally raised wood-fired chicken, served in half and whole orders. We recommend starting with a bowl of tomato basil bisque or hand-made mushroom pizzetta. Lunch presents a raft of such items, plus house-made pasta, sandwiches and salads. Expect Southern flavors on the dessert list as well --- think coconut cake and caramel cake. The gluten-free menu has a number of choices from the main menu. Don’t miss a look at the extensive wine list, beer and microbrew menu, and cocktails for a pairing. We applaud the inclusion of the occasional North Carolina wine in a lineup that visits a wide range of wine-producing regions in Europe and the New World.
