THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Saint M Restaurant Review:

Saint M is the second, slightly less expensive (if you go à la carte), and hugely less pretentious restaurant of that achingly fashionable hotel of Ian Schrager’s, St. Martins Lane. Presumably Philippe Starck had his hands nailed down when designing this room---it’s relatively conservative compared to the rest of the hotel. A huge central bar takes pride of place, with the tables partitioned off on four sides by wooden dividers with seating. Mirrors run above the tables down one wall, it’s open to an outdoor terrace down another. The staff is young, friendly and efficient; the customers are---at least at lunch---a good cross-section of London diners, so you can dress how you want. And the food? The food is very good. A game terrine with Madeira jelly came with Polane bread and was flavourful and gutsy, while a risotto of sea scallops with hollandaise sauce topped with crisp-fried Parmesan was suitably nutty. Mains continue the good work, as in simply grilled veal chop with tomato chutney and mushrooms that were wild and woody. Tuna came crusted in fennel and cumin with watercress risotto and a spiced fish-based cream sauce. Desserts revert to the traditional---sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream, treacle tart with clotted cream. Set lunch & pre-theatre dinner (5.30pm-7pm) 2 courses £14.95, 3 courses £17.95.
