Salt Creek Grille Restaurant Review:

Despite being situated in Plaza El Segundo, a sprawling South Bay shopping center, this branch of Tim McCune and Pete Truxaw’s chain distinguishes itself with its inviting Craftsman architecture and American cuisine. Welcoming outdoor fire pits are a harbinger of the warm hospitality that awaits diners indoors. A lively wood-framed bar contains a communal table and a projection screen that shows classic movies. The space is 7,500 square feet, but smart divisions create an air of intimacy (and a reasonable noise level) for diners. In an exposed kitchen, executive chef Scott Floyd motivates his crew to make sure patrons get their selection cooked to their liking. The day’s catch, for instance, is available mesquite-grilled, blackened, pan-seared or oven-roasted. Consistently tender meats, including a handful of naturally raised beef options, are highlighted by center-cut pork chops that are as thick as a millionaire’s wallet and arrive moist and tender because they have been brined with apple cider. More casual bites include a Gorgonzola-stuffed burger, kale and quinoa salad, and barbecue chicken flatbread. A notable wine list is especially strong on Napa Valley Chardonnays and Cabernet Sauvignons. For dessert, SCG’s signature chocolate ganache soufflé takes 25 minutes to prepare, but it may be worth the wait. Portions are generous, so expect to bring home a doggy bag.
