THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Scales Grill & Deck Bar Restaurant Review:

The décor is basic Jersey Shore fish house without the kitsch. On the deck, rows of tables have blue umbrellas that protect diners from the sun, while the inside holds simple wooden tables and chairs and lots of windows. Local produce is featured in such dishes as blue crab and corn chowder, a wondrous, ruddy elixir; and the grilled vegetable plate colorful with zucchini and yellow squash slices marinated in balsamic vinaigrette before they hit the griddle. An oyster po’ boy with lettuce, tomato and a bright and sassy “volcano” sauce doesn’t precisely evoke life on the bayou but the oysters are spot on fresh, plump and right out of the water. The Old Bay chips that come on the plate are crisp, hot and dusted with the familiar seafood spice mix. Scales seafood pasta is a veritable aquarium of shellfish, all tossed with buttery clam broth and topped with chopped scallions and fresh tomatoes. The wine list matches the food---simple and fairly priced. Desserts are few but here’s the inside track: order the jumbo chocolate cupcake for two---it’s big enough to share and you really ought to, but you won’t want to.
