This regular stop on the Del Mar Racetrack restaurant circuit overlooks the San Diego Polo Club. During the season, Scalini really gets cooking---especially when the piano bar offers such diverse entertainment as Broadway show tunes, classic Italian love songs---even opera. Executive chef Frankie “The Bull” Terzoli (of Bravo’s Top Chef Season Two) has updated the longstanding classic Italian menu only slightly. We’re happy to see the elaborate antipasto table remains, as well as the Scalini signature lobster meat served over grilled fennel, peppers and endive with avocado dressing. Other favorite selections include the wood-fired, oven-baked volcano of linguine, clams, scallops and shrimp in a fiery red sauce and the swordfish with Gorgonzola polenta.
