Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant Review:

Let's just say up front that this place isn't packed because of the (forgettable) food; it's packed because of the clever setting, a re-creation of a 1950s drive-in theater smack in the middle of the Hollywood Hills. Fiber-optic stars twinkle overhead, and on the big screen are vintage sci-fi and monster flicks---trailers from Cat Women of the Moon and Invasion of the Saucerman and more. You're seated in re-creations of flashy, chrome-gilded cars from the '50s, and carhops in campy drive-in garb take your order. The food, however, is fine for the setting: salads, sandwiches and substantial appetizers that you can munch while watching The Amazing Colossal Man. You can't go wrong with the salad with beef and blue cheese, the Italian chicken sandwich or the BLT soup. Seared tofu with mango glaze and shrimp pasta with garlic-cream sauce are decent, but stick with the simple, less expensive fare. For a dramatic finale, try the peanut butter chocolate cake or warm apple crumble.
