THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The SideCar Restaurant Restaurant Review:
Nostalgia meets modernism at this longstanding restaurant, which has been serving food in its present location on and off since 1933. Get your history in the front room, a converted Pullman train car, and your trends at the bar, with its bevy of fruit-infused martinis. Chef Tim Kilcoyne celebrates the farmers of Ventura County in his ever-changing menus. You’ll see heirloom tomatoes and baby greens in the salads, along with seasonal fruits. The pork chops come from Niman Ranch, and fresh fish from local waters. On Tuesday nights, celebrate the art of the grilled cheese sandwich with good bread, artisan cheese and live jazz. (The regular menu is also available.) On Thursdays, you can build your own gourmet burgers with more of that cheese and neat condiment options; martinis are specially priced on Thursdays, too. Check for monthly events like winemaker dinners or farmers’ dinners, when the growers get to wax eloquent about their produce. Don’t miss the crock of lemon curd on the tables in the summertime.
