THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Silk Road Afghan Cuisine Restaurant Review:
Despite its formal décor, this Lansdowne eatery lacks fire and inspiration, serving somewhat bland dishes. That said, you can satisfy your appetite, though be aware that the Afghan “ravioli” known as aushak and the steamed dumpling, or mantoo, here seem puzzlingly identical. Better to stick to the kebab platters, from lamb, chicken and beef to a combo, for these consist of grilled meats served with rice and Afghan bread. Vegetarians will find a few entrées, including the kadu chalaw, which traditionally calls for roast pumpkin but here the cook substitutes the less-hearty acorn squash. Desserts are few, and include the requisite baklava and the less familiar firnee, a rice pudding dusted with cardamom.
