Silo Terrace Oyster Bar Restaurant Review

: At this Silo location, there’s a new emphasis on fresh oysters and global seafood; the second-story scenario of the original outpost, however, remains the same. But if forced to wait in the downstairs lobby, you can at least get a glass of wine from card-operated dispensers. A better wine selection is available upstairs, where a snappy bottle of unoaked Macon Villages pairs nicely with a half dozen oysters from Bristol Bay or maybe Nova Scotia. Chilled Maine lobster is another starter option; for colder months, consider the clam chowder with sherry cream. We haven’t been altogether thrilled with the overdressed fried green tomatoes or the ceviche in the past, but Silo’s signature fried oysters rarely disappoint. And big plates, such as the lush lobster ravioli with its overkill of butter and more butter, can be spectacularly good. The open kitchen has also turned out some very respectable chef-picked fish options, including a rendition of blackened swordfish, a dish that can stand up to a sprightly red from Northern Italy. An open terrace accommodates lunches or dinners on balmy days and nights, of which San Antonio does have at least a few. Happy hour, anyone?
