Sky's Gourmet Tacos Restaurant Review:

Self-taught chef Barbara J. “Sky” Burrell opened her eponymous restaurant in the early '90s, inspired by the tacos she prepared for her family at home. Order from a window and they’ll bring the food to your table. To Sky, tacos, quesadillas and burritos are essentially the same thing: open-face and loaded with a choice of toppings, shredded iceberg lettuce, chunky salsa and sour cream. The shrimp taco is the signature dish. Before grilling, the tortillas and shrimp are dipped in a mix of chilies, cumin, garlic and oregano, imparting a powerful kick. The menu was eventually expanded, adding identical takes on crawfish and lobster meat, and a grilled salmon taco heaped with coleslaw. There are also vegan versions of the burritos and tacos, and a small selection of burgers, tortas and salads. To drink, consider fresh-squeezed lemonade that comes in a Mason jar. For dessert, creamy cheesecakes are featured, highlighted by "caramel crunch," with a crushed walnut crust, and a seasonal mango option.
