THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Review:
The deep green and white clapboard building looks as though someone plopped down a Texas-size version of the venerable New York steakhouse by the side of the highway. Inside you get a few Texas tidbits, sandstone fireplaces, lots of space along with some red, white and blue Americana pieces, and a very large moose head over the one fireplace. Expect the same excellent dried aged prime beef as you find at any Smith & Wollensky, plus very friendly and efficient service. The seriously hungry will want the 28-ounce Colorado rib steak, enough food for four, though a few hearty souls have been known to clobber the whole thing. The queen of the menu is the savory, butter-tender filet mignon au poivre, the 12-ounce portion should be more than sufficient, especially if you add a mound of onion rings or corn on the cob. Not in the mood for turf? There's plenty of surf available and even a gloriously roasted chicken with a crackling skin rubbed with lemon and dotted with garlic. If the weather permits, have a drink on the patio by the wood-burning fireplace before dinner.
