THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Review:
HURRICANE KATRINA: this establishment is currently closed. For a New Orleans Travel Update as well as resources, information and help click here. Thanks to its hard-working, Louisiana-native chef, this immense steakhouse chain is garnering more and more praise from locals, even considering the very lofty prices. In a rambling complex of stylishly decorated dining rooms on two floors, Smith & Wollensky's fans dig into gorgeous, dry-aged slabs of beautifully marbled beef, mammoth Maine lobsters and perhaps the best hamburgers in town. The more casual Doc Smith's Lounge next door offers tamer portions at saner prices, as well as a darned good gumbo. The popularity of both venues may also be due to New Orleans' NBA team and the restaurant's proximity to the Louisiana Superdome where the Hornets play their home games. Open until 2 a.m. weekends.
