Stake Chophouse & Bar Restaurant Review:
Coronado is home to this classy chophouse perched above Orange Avenue from Blue Bridge Hospitality (Leroy's Kitchen + Lounge, Liberty Public Market). Start with Le Mesnil Grand Cru bubbles, and dig into steak tartare with crispy capers, a petite quail egg and house-made chips. Then order the chewy Brooklyn bacon steak, counterbalanced by "massaged" kale salad with shaved Brussels sprouts, sweet melted onions, feta and smoked almonds. Steak is the star, with a wide range of options: Wagyu, rib-eye, filet and a surprise, a flavorful Snake River Farms skirt steak. For sides, try the charred Suzie's Farm baby broccoli; roasted carrots with hints of cumin and orange zest; and the chanterelle mushroom bread pudding. Fish fans will go for the sable fish from Morro Bay, which rests on creamy sunchoke purée. Lobster, crab legs, ahi and black cod round out the surf side of the menu. Cap off the evening with the chocolate almond cake with caramel mousse.
