The Stone House Cafe Restaurant Review:

Chef-owner Paul Abowd has a long and storied past in Reno's restaurant scene and still cooks nightly at this café, open since 2005. The interior is a modern take on a traditional house, and there is a lovely, intimate bar, but the real action is on the garden patio where tables are nestled among trees and flowers, protected from the (admittedly noisy) street by a stone wall. Knowledgeable and friendly servers are happy to recommend specials not on the menu, such as the portobello mushroom en croûte with Gruyère and Gorgonzola. The Caribbean barbecued prawns with a side of black bean and corn salsa is another winner. Appetizers easily serve four, or make a light meal in themselves. Entrées include a wide variety of seafood and red meat choices, including notable steaks. For dessert, try the strawberry shortcake. A full bar features a fun selection of domestic and imported beers, and the wine menu includes mainly boutique California wines with a few imports. The restaurant is family friendly (and dog-friendly, too, on the patio) and is a good choice for an outdoor brunch.
