THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Sura Restaurant Review:

It’s easy to walk right by this Korean restaurant in the East Village and not notice it at all. Which makes it all the more a gem. In a town where Korean eateries seem to fall into two categories---overly stylized (as in the Momofuku empire) and authentically alienating to novices of the cuisine (as in nearly every restaurant in Koreatown)---Sura does an admirable job of staying true to the heart of the cuisine while making it accessible. The service is extremely attentive and prices (especially at lunch) are easy on the wallet. Hearty kimchi or spicy tofu stews come in a stone bowl, boiling like a witch’s cauldron. Pumpkin porridge is thick and bold. The menu is crammed with the usual Korean standards---heaping bowls of udon, variations of bibimbap, Korean-style wraps---all made with fresh ingredients and all a step above the average area Korean joint.
