TASCA IS CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS Housed in a building that was long shuttered, Tasca has given new life to the intersection of Seventh Avenue and West Tenth Street. The large picture glass windows show off the droopy tear-drop lights that hang over the bar. The space is small and prone to ear-aching levels of noise, which would be the perfect occasion for the two-dozen tapas dishes to do some talking. The fig-and-bacon-laced snails hardly have enough gusto to arouse the taste buds and sardines served with black olives and pine nuts are soggy lumps. Fortunately, the garlic-loaded grilled hangar steak is tender, juicy, and done just right while the grilled squid with arugula and olive oil tastes like it was just pulled from the sea. Choose from among some three dozen fairly priced bottles of Spanish wine.
