THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Tenth Restaurant Review:
On the tenth floor of the Royal Garden Hotel, the views over Kensington Gardens are stunning, so ask for a window table. There is a bar at one end with comfortable chairs, while the restaurant occupies a two-tiered space, which comes into its own on the last Saturday of the month when the Gary Williams Orchestra plays 1950s big band classics. The cooking is consistently good, with exuberant flourishes and Asian spicing. Expect starters like seared sesame tuna loin with tiger prawn wonton and mango and papaya salsa, or a terrific twice-baked smoked haddock soufflé with confit fennel, lemon grass and dill. Mains might include grilled English lamb rump flavoured with chick peas and a coriander yogurt. From the dessert menu, go for passion fruit cream with orange sable, or chocolate pudding. Service is excellent, friendly and professional; the wine list covers the world. Set 2-course lunch £17.25, 3 courses £23.
