THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Toro Restaurant Review:

Not everything works on the menu of this buzzing Boston import, which boasts nearly 60 menu items of different sizes. Of the pinchos, which they define as “snacks” (note: it’s actually a small morsel tooth-picked to a slice of bread), pan con tomate is more like bruschetta you’d find in Italy: a thick purée of tomato and garlic poured onto a toasted piece of bread (in Spain, the tomato and garlic would be rubbed onto bread). Smoked beef heart on toast, though, was satisfying to the point that we wished for more. The slightly bigger tapas dishes were similarly hit and miss, with the star of the show being the intense grilled txipirones, small baby squid, an item one rarely sees on menus outside of Iberia. Classics like patatas bravas suffered from an overly sweet tomato sauce. The drinks list, made up of a nice selection of Spanish wines and a great gin and tonic selection, nearly made up for the menu misses at this thumping see-and-be-seen Meatpacking District/West Chelsea spot.
