THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Triple S Ranch Restaurant Review:
This ranch restaurant down an unassuming turnoff along the mountain pass between Napa and Sonoma counties surprises even longtime locals tipped off to its existence. The former cattle barn from the 1960s draws winemakers and patrons craving “nouveau redneck” cuisine in a region where it’s a rarity. They gather at the spacious woodsy bar for pitchers of Pliny the Elder double IPA, or at red-and-white checked tables in the vaulted, wood-paneled dining room. Platters ought to come with take-home boxes, since everyone leaves with them. Gotta-have crunchy onion rings never turn greasy, nor does the juicy fried chicken in cornmeal coating paired with sweet corn, lima bean and okra succotash. Cool ranch dressing for dipping tastes even better spiked with Louisiana hot sauce conveniently planted on tables. Steaks and chops make up most of the mains. Try the NY strip: it tastes like the grill and comes with real mashed potatoes---clumpy, salty and creamy. Sides include stone-ground grits flown in from a small Alabama farm at the chef’s insistence, and “tiny green beans” (haricots verts sounds too foofy). There’s no way to fit in dessert, though you may as well at this point. Leave plenty full but without regret.
