THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Union Bay Cafe Restaurant Review

: Union Bay Café is the sort of neighborhood place we all wish we had close by. It's well lit, inviting and perfectly civilized. Enter through a breezy courtyard and step into one of two dining rooms, separated by windows and glass partitions that have been cleverly etched with recipes. Service is polite and a bit familiar, but we find this level of conviviality is usually welcome in a neighborhood restaurant. The kitchen regularly hits its marks, with the exception of the oddly overdressed salad. Pasta dishes tend to feature fresh vegetables such as Portobello mushrooms and grape tomatoes (at the peak of their season). Fresh fish is handled with care and competence. A fresh take on pan-roasted duck breast includes port wine, shallots and espresso over creamy polenta. Union Bay Café also has an extraordinary wine list, with many bottles priced around the irresistible $25 mark: ask about the Wines of Unique Interest. There you will find some real treasures. No time for dinner? Drop by after they open for a satisfying happy hour nosh.
