THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED UpStairs on the Square Restaurant Review:

Institutions are a dying breed in ever-more-commercialized Harvard Square, so kudos to restaurateurs Mary-Catherine Deibel and Deborah Hughes for fighting the good fight---with wild style. After losing the lease for the site of their much-loved UpStairs at the Pudding, they reopened as Upstairs on the Square in the digs of another neighborhood fixture, Grendel's Den (which now occupies the basement below). And the results are eye-popping as well as palate-pleasing. Two dining rooms---the cupcake-frothy Soiree Room and the paintbox-and-pelt-splashed Monday Club Bar---offer two different dining experiences, the former more formal, the latter more laid-back. Upstairs, splurge on lush Pierre Robert-filled ravioli sprinkled with herb butter or seared scallops with risotto-style fregola and porcini relish; downstairs, dine more casually (and a tad more cheaply) on sausage-and-Brie pizza or grilled lamb with caramelized bread pudding, followed by the signature butterscotch pudding. The Monday Club Bar also serves lunch, afternoon tea and Sunday brunch. But the professional bar crew plies its trade with panache whatever the meal. Live entertainment many nights, meanwhile, spices things up even more.
