Urban Farmer Restaurant Review

: Urban Farmer’s cavernous dining room boasts an open kitchen, marble-topped charcuterie counter, wraparound bar and plenty of reclaimed wood, polished concrete and other recycled materials. The menu focuses on sustainable Midwest ingredients. Butcher’s cuts of heritage-breed beef take the spotlight, with grass-fed, grain-finished and corn-fed varieties also available. Chicken, pork, game and seafood are offered as well. Start with the house-made charcuterie or the Prime beef tartare with fennel, Parmesan and a crunchy pile of brioche. Meat-wise there isn’t a bad choice, but consider the New York steak tasting as it presents the unique opportunity of trying different types of beef. Sides are sized for sharing and change seasonally --- think twice-baked fingerling potato topped with aged cheddar and bacon. For desserts, the devil’s food whoopie pie and the Great Lakes barley custard top the must-try list. Beverages reflect Midwest artisans, too, with beer selections from within Cleveland city limits, cocktails made with local craft spirits and an extensive wine program highlighting regional vineyards.
