Local restaurateur Tristan Simon's gastropub extols the talents of California native Kirstyn Brewer, who, along with adventurous mixologist Alex Fletcher, has created a playful menu elevated by inspiring cocktails --- you can't go wrong with the Pretty in Pink featuring gin, Aperol, grapefruit liqueur, lemon and sparkling wine. The interior, lengthened by a white marble stretch bar and a long brick wall, boasts leather booths and conversation-engaging community tables where groups graze over shared plates. Flatbread topped with crumbled house-made lamb sausage is a crowd-pleaser, but those brave enough to try the grilled celery root with tonnato sauce will be rewarded with a very memorable dish indeed. Other good choices include roasted pork belly, served over barbecue lentils for a clever take on pork and beans; fried oysters with umami-loaded miso butter; and a generously sized sticky toffee cake with mascarpone cream that might just have you batting your table mates for the last bite. You could also encounter kabocha squash okonomiyaki with Benton’s ham, shrimp or bonito, and tempura-fried Brussels sprouts with fish sauce caramel and yuzu koshi aïoli.
