Located in the center of Carmel Valley Village, the Village Fish House is situated in a charming building. There are platters of oysters (Rockefeller, if you wish) and plates of octopus or other starters (share if you’d like). Fish can be prepared oak-grilled, blackened or with Marsala. Halibut can come crusted with macadamias. Side dishes of pastas and vegetables are interchangeable, and the latter changes with the seasons; fresh sautéed zucchini and green beans may appear in the summer. Staff is accommodating, and the atmosphere without airs. The wine list is small and surprising, and most selections are available by the glass.
