VIPS Restaurant Review:
Like Wings and Sanborns, VIPS (in this case the Eugenia Boulevard branch) offers comfort and convenience to Mexico City diners, morning, noon and night. Choose from a variety of Mexican standbys, like molletes (grilled rolls covered in beans, cheese and chorizo) and enchiladas suizas (chicken enchiladas with tomato and cream sauce) as well as modest carne asadas; plus offerings like burgers, club sandwiches and an uncommon selection of pies and soda fountain treats. Nothing is expected to knock your socks off, but after a late night, a nice bowl of tortilla soup or some eggs can be a satisfying, if pedestrian, luxury, particularly when practically every other place is closed. Like in most diners, it may be best to stick to the basics---breakfast, sandwiches---and leave the experimentation for the white-tablecloth joints. In the meantime, you’re hungry and tired and VIPS is right there.
