If you think the Thai theme has been overdone in the metro area, you might try out this little Rockville bistro that puts a new twist on traditional Thai cookery and décor. Dressed up like a French bistro with its warm colors, flashy light fixtures, and faux Impressionist artwork, Wande stages a moderately good display of Thai food in what is obviously a husband-and-wife effort. The kitchen must also think about westernizing its food, for most of the flavors were temperate. Yet when it counted, as with the panang curry and the drunken noodles, all of the flavors were there, even if the heat was not. Desserts are minimal and include fried bananas with ice cream, and Thai custard. While the cooking may not satisfy a deep craving for Thai flavors, at least both atmosphere and food are pleasant.
