Weathervane Restaurant Review:

After shopping Southern Season’s mind-boggling selection of cookware, wines, spices, chocolates, and other food-related items, take a break for breakfast, lunch or dinner in Weathervane. The beautifully designed café adorned with oversize food posters offers innovative contemporary cuisine from chef Damon Barham. Beginning with breakfast, options include a chorizo-and-cheddar quesadilla, crab cake and egg sandwich, and the fluffiest pancakes imaginable. At lunch, try familiar American salads or a combination plate of chicken, egg and other salads of your choice. Later in the day the relatively quiet bar is a cozy meeting place for a glass of wine or classic cocktail along with a nibble such as pimento cheese fritters or deviled eggs. Depending on the season, dinner fare may include seared grouper with sautéed kale and a black rice cake, Moroccan-style roasted leg of lamb or a filet of beef with peppercorn demi-glace, pommes frites and asparagus. Best bets for desserts are the banana crème brûlée or the cherry chocolate clafouti. The wine list is affordable, and an extensive reserve list is available on request. Weathervane’s garden is a lovely setting for a spring or fall meal among gurgling fountains and seasonal blossoms.
