The Weathervane Restaurant Review: After browsing the aisles of Southern Season with its selection of cookware, wines, spices, chocolates, and other food-related items, relax over a meal at Weathervane. Located adjacent to the store, this stylish eatery offers contemporary cuisine created by chef Ryan Payne. Beginning with breakfast, options include apricot french toast filled with mascarpone, salmon eggs Benedict, and fried chicken and waffles. At lunch, Payne presents an assortment of familiar American salads --- the Cobb enhanced with a buttermilk cucumber dressing or a spinach and goat cheese salad topped with local strawberries --- and innovative sandwiches. Depending on the season, dinner items may include trout cooked in paper with lemon caper pesto, seared sirloin with marrow butter, or sweet tea glazed salmon with crispy collard greens. Best bets for desserts are the classic crème brûlée or the house-made sorbets. The wine list is affordable, and an extensive reserve list is available on request. The Weathervane’s garden is a lovely setting for a spring or fall meal, and the bar is a cozy place to meet a friend for a glass of wine and a snack of pimiento cheese fritters. |
