West Lake Restaurant (aka Xihulou) in Changsha, the capital city of Hunan, is one of the largest restaurants in the world. (It was the subject of a four-part series called “The Biggest Chinese Restaurant in the World” on BBC’s “Storyville” in 2008.) The complex is made up of several buildings designed in the classic Chinese architectural style. Around 5,000 guests can be accommodated at seating areas that include Imperial Palace private dining rooms. The menu features spicy dishes from the provinces of Hunan and Guangdong, featuring ingredients like pork, chicken and even snakes.
