Whampoa Club Restaurant Review:
Situated on the historic Bund waterfront, Whampoa Club boasts a good view, while inside Art Deco-inspired furnishings evoke the Shanghai of the 1920s and 1930s. The aim of the restaurant is to take Chinese dining to new heights. All of the porcelain and glasses are custom made, and there are jade plates. Tea is the traditional accompaniment to Chinese fare and guests will find a choice of more than 50 varieties, as well as tea sommeliers. Food is a mixture of high-end Cantonese and Shanghainese cuisines. Try the steamed grouper wrapped in lotus leaf and the deep-fried king prawn with wasabi dressing. At around $33, the lunch set menu is a deal. Desserts have included red bean rice cake. Service is patchy. Note the entrance is on Guangdong Road.
