Yang's Dumpling Restaurant Review:
Wujiang Lu was once home to a whole collection of small local restaurants and this is where Yang’s, today a chain of more than 30 shops, had its origins. Forget the well-known xiaolongbao. Yang’s is famous for shengjianbao, what people in Shanghai eat regularly, often for breakfast. Containing pork and soup, they are really a bun, which is fried on the bottom to give a crunchy base. Available on street corners all over Shanghai, they are often too sweet or of dubious quality. Yang’s offers some of the best and of a consistent standard. Order from the counter, behind which is a menu in English and Chinese. For dumplings, take your ticket to the window; other dishes are delivered to your table. The correct way to eat the dumplings is to bite a small hole and then suck the soup from them before dipping in vinegar and devouring the rest. There’s also a number of noodle selections, which are all good. Décor is fast-food style with plastic tables and bowls, and clean.
