Zafferano Restaurant Review:
Being in such a smart neighbourhood makes this essentially local restaurant all the more surprising. It’s a pretty, though relatively small, venue, its two interconnecting rooms suitably tiled. The emphasis is on fresh ingredients treated with proper respect, so don’t expect one of those menus full of odd mixtures of tastes and elaborate cooking methods. Tuscan ham comes with celeriac and mustard fruits, seared scallops with saffron vinaigrette; pastas such as chestnut tagliatelle with wild mushrooms are spot on. Fish is well prepared, as in Atlantic cod with salsa verde. Meat arrives moist, well-rounded and full of flavour. Desserts tempt: apple tart with vanilla ice cream or tiramisu. The predominantly Italian wine list requires knowledge to reveal the gems, but there is help at hand should you need it. Set meals 2 courses £36.50, 3 courses £46.50, 4 courses £51.50.
