THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Zaina Restaurant Review:
The lobby level of the Bon Macy's parking garage seems an unlikely location for this lively, inviting café (sister to the Pioneer Square location). A warm, friendly welcome and terrific food keep people coming back again and again. Service is cafeteria-style---order, pay and pick up your food, then find a table in the cheerful dining room. The menu makes superlative claims such as The Greatest Falafel on Earth. We are believers. Unlike so many other falafel sandwiches that can center on an unctuous ball of screaming hot chickpea batter swimming in sesame goop, at Zaina, falafel is tender, not at all greasy and slightly smoky. The mixed vegetable sandwich is another not-to-be-missed menu item. Tender roasted eggplant, cauliflower and potato are wrapped in a warm, grilled-to-order pita, which has been frosted with house-made hummus and dressed with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, chickpeas and a spicy sauce. Chicken mishwi, a.k.a. Middle Eastern rotisserie, and the classic tabbouleh salad are equally wonderful. Zaina is also a great place to try real Turkish coffee and authentic Baklava.
