For luxury you can count on, the stately Banke Hotel is worth the investment. This early twentieth-century, former bank building in the Opera district combines original details with sexy modern style. The lobby boasts a crystal dome ceiling and central mosaic surrounded by bank counters, while the guest rooms feature plaited leather rugs, damask headboards and, in the bathrooms, silver-plated mosaics. Of name-dropping note are the bar's transparent "ghost" stools designed by Philippe Starck. Unlike most top-of-the-line Parisian hotels, this one does not feature French cuisine in its signature restaurant. Instead, the menu at Josefin travels to southern Europe for Spanish dishes highlighted by Catalan specialties.
